21% of women have already missed work because of their period, and 27% know a woman in their circle to whom it has already happened, tells us an Opinionway poll for the Elementary Rules association.
In the opinion of 7 out of 10 French people, rules are a taboo subject in the company
Missing work because of the rules is not something exceptional: it has already happened to 21% of women, we learn from an Opinionway poll for the Elementary Rules association. Note that young women aged 25 to 34 and CSP + are more concerned.
At the same time, 68% of respondents believe that rules are taboo in business. Of all the other social institutions, the company appears to be the strongest patriarchal bastion. Indeed, in the eyes of the French, rules are less of a taboo subject in society in general (a finding made by 57% of those questioned) and even less in the family (28%). As a result of these social taboos, 57% of French women say they have never received any formal education about menstruation.
1 in 4 women must have used less periodic protection than necessary
According to the same survey, 20% of adult women have already been confronted with menstrual insecurity. On this point, another survey, carried out by the FIFG for Eve and Co in March 2021, told us that 24% of women had already used less periodic protection than they needed, 19% had had to decide between the purchase of periodic protection and another essential purchase, and 15% had already made periodic protection themselves .
Fortunately, things are changing. To alleviate this precariousness a little, at the start of the September 2021 school year, periodical protection will be made available to students free of charge. In some universities, distributors are already installed.
