COVAX started distributing COVID-19 vaccine to poor countries

China will provide 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the Global Vaccine Access Mechanism – COVAX.

The Global Acute Respiratory Inflammatory Vaccine Initiative (COVAX) initiative will begin distributing vaccines to low- and middle-income countries starting February 2021.

190 economies agreed to participate in this program that would have access to the vaccine in the first 6 months of 2021, with the first batch of goods starting to be distributed in the first quarter of 2021.

COVAX has also reached an agreement to pre-order 170 million doses of AstraZeneca pharmaceuticals vaccine (UK) and 500 million doses of Johnson & Johnson (USA).

There will be approximately 2 billion doses of COVID-19 out of the 3 billion expected to be delivered to COVAX by 2021.
