The magic of Disney still operates and particularly for its Disney + streaming platform which in its 14 months of existence has reached 94.9 million subscribers. A number that excludes new arrivals after January 2, 2021 and before the release of the highly anticipated WandaVision series.
Disney + smashes its 4-year goal in 14 months
In its report for the first quarter of 2021, the platform Disney + announces that it has reached 94.9 million subscribers. A world record that she set in just 14 months and which shatters the group’s goal of 90 million subscribers, however according to estimates by Disney + the goal should have been reached only in four years. An extraordinary popularity which forces the American giant to revise its plans upwards, now counting on a goal of 230 to 260 million subscribers by 2024.
During its investor day in December 2020, Disney + had put forward the already strong number of 86 million subscribers. The increase of 8.9 million subscribers in just two short months is believed to be mainly due to the release of several highly anticipated films and series, like season 2 of the series derived from the universe of Star Wars, The Mandalorian, the live-action of the famous cartoon Mulan or even the youngest of Pixar Soul.
Good results despite the Covid-19 crisis
Despite the health crisis which has forced the Disney group to stop its cruises or even reduce access to its theme parks, the company’s turnover is higher than the objectives set by the firm. In his report, Disney puts forward a figure of 16.25 billion dollars, which remains however 20% lower than the results of last year.
Disney +, which has a turnover of 3.5 billion dollars, an increase of 73%, represents 20% of the total turnover of the Disney group. However, despite the good results Disney + will increase its rates in the United States from $ 6.99 per month or $ 69.99 per year, to $ 7.99 per month or $ 79.99 per year.
