Movimento Sou de Cotton launches 2nd challenge with Casa de Criadores

Contest gives opportunity for design and fashion students from all over Brazil to create cotton looks; registration starts August 22

The I Am Cotton Movement, which stimulates fiber consumption in the fashion industry, and Casa de Criadores, come together more

once to promote the 2nd Sou de Cotão + Casa de Criadores Challenge. The project, which will be launched on August 22, International Fashion Day, aims to give students the opportunity to show all their creativity.

The initiative focuses on the dissemination of cotton as a raw material through the discovery of new talents. Therefore, participants must use fiber in their collections as the main material, resulting in at least 70% of the composition of each developed look.

“We are looking forward to stimulating creativity of students. Our purpose is to encourage the new generation with the use of fiber in the fashion chain, showing how cotton is a versatile, modern and bold material ”, comments Milton Garbugio, producer and president of the Brazilian Association of Producers of
Cotton (Abrapa).

The first edition of the Challenge, in 2019, had more than 400 registrations. For this year, the goal is to double, since it has the participation of all institutions of higher education, technology and Bachelor of Fashion, Design and related areas spread across the country.

“For students, participating in an event like this opens many doors for being an enriching experience. Last year, the winners were Mateus Cardoso, from Santa Marcelina College, Rodrigo Evangelista, who graduated from the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), and Dario Mittmann, from the State University of Maringá (UEM). Nowadays, they reap the fruits of the 1st Challenge ”, says André Hidalgo, creator of Casa de Criadores.

Students interested in participating must register on the portal www.soudealgodao.com.br/desafio, from August 22 to February 26, 2021, which can be individual or in pairs. The work may be in the segments of men’s, women’s, haute couture, ready-to-wear, fitness, homewear / loungewear or streetwear.
