The designer dog family continues to grow. After the Labradoodle, the Longdog, the Cockapoo, the Yorkiepoo or even the Lurcher, here is now the Bichpoo which is neither more nor less than a breed resulting from a cross between the Poodle and the Bichon frize. As well as being good-natured and intelligent, this dog has a reputation for being easy-going.
Characteristics of the Bichpoo
Considered a designer dog, the Bichpoo is the result of a hybridization between the Bichon Frize and the Poodle. Since he was born from two pure breeds, the physical characteristics may vary from animal to animal. The lack of a standard also makes it difficult to describe the dog. However, we know that it measures between 12 and 24 cm and weighs between 2 to 5 kg. Registered in the category of toy dogs, the Bichpoo therefore stands out for its small size. Physically, he has a stocky appearance and reveals relatively broad shoulders. He is also recognizable by his irresistible little face marked by a small head, medium-sized ears as well as black eyes and a black nose that contrasts with the light coat. The color of the coat is very variable, but it is quite common to find Bichpoo with white coats. The fur is as curly like that of its parents.
History of the Bichpoo breed
Designer dogs have been riding the wave of success lately. They were born from the will of breeders to create breeds while avoiding the risks associated with consanguinity, in particular diseases. The Bichpoo, for example, has a 0% inbreeding rate, which is relatively rare in the dog world. Not much is known about the history of this breed. We only know that it made its appearance for the first time in Australia in the late 1990s. It is mainly developing in the United Kingdom and the United States, the promised land of “designer dogs”. It is there that hybrid breeds are most numerous.
Necessary living conditions and behavior of the Bichpoo
The Bichpoo was created to be the perfect pet. He is easy going, always happy and pleasant. It is a dog that needs the attention and the presence of its owners to thrive. He is very attached to his humans and constantly wants their company. The Bichpoo has the same character as the Bichon and the Poodle, especially in terms of intelligence. He has this advantage of learning quickly, which can facilitate his education. Be careful, even if it is a house dog, it needs to do regular physical exercises to channel its energy well.
Diet and main health problems of the Bichpoo
The advantage of having crossed the Poodle and the Bichon to obtain the Bichpoo is to avoid diseases caused by inbreeding. However, this does not mean that this breed is exempt from all pathologies. He may be affected by kidney problems, epilepsy, or glaucoma which are typical of his parents.
