It was not until the end of the 19th century that breeding developed in Munster. The Great Muenster Spaniel was trained at the time as a pointing dog. It is said that he carries with him the blood of several breeds such as the setter, the French spaniel, the German pointer or the pointer. For many years, the Great Muenster Spaniel struggled to show off, as it was never recognized as a separate breed, but as a variant of the German Pointer with a black and white coat.
