The Labradoodle: Character, Education, Health, Price | Dog Breed

The large family of canines continues to grow. Appeared very recently in the United States and not officially recognized, the Labradoodle is one of these new breeds that are talking about them. It is especially appreciated for its hypoallergenic character making it suitable for people who develop allergies to dog hair.

Labradoodle characteristics

The name may not mean anything to you and yet, the Labradoodle has seen its price increase in recent years, as have new breeds such as the Morkie, the Cockapoo or the Goldendoodle. He stands out above all for his very atypical physique. It is a medium-sized dog measuring between 35 and 60 cm at the withers for a weight of 6 to 30 kg. Why such a difference in measurements? Quite simply because the Labradoodle comes in three heights: Miniature, Medium and Standard. It is rather rustic and stands out for its very abundant coat which hides part of its head.

Since this dog does not yet have a standard, no details concerning the peculiarities of its morphology are available. On the other hand, we know that he can have three types of hair: smooth hair, curly hair and curly hair. The smooth-haired variety bears a striking resemblance to Labrador. On the other hand, it is not very popular with the public because one of the advantages of adopting the Labradoodle is that it is hypoallergenic. However, smooth-haired varieties tend to shed their fur. The curly-haired variety displays a lot of softness. Finally, curly-haired dogs are reminiscent of the Poodle.

History of the Labradoodle breed

The Labradoodle is a “designer dog”. It is the result of a cross between two pure breeds namely the Labrador and the Poodle also nicknamed Poodle in English. The breed has its origins in Australia and the United States and was born under the leadership of Wally Colron in the 1980s. It was intended to act as guide dogs for the blind, but also to be suitable for people allergic to dog hair, hence the choice to associate the Labrador, whose reputation as a guide dog is well established, and the poodle, which is particularly renowned for the quality of its coat. The Labradoodle being a very recent dog, it is not recognized by the Central Canine Society or by the International Cynological Federation.

Necessary living conditions and behavior of the Labradoodle

As the breed is very recent, it is not yet stabilized. There are therefore differences in character depending on the selections, breedings or even breeders. However, some specialists claim that the Labradoodle is a sociable, affectionate and cheerful dog that has inherited character traits from its ancestors. It is the quintessential pet that can live in an apartment as long as it exercises regularly. His only flaw is that he has a tendency not to bear loneliness.

Diet and main health problems of the Labradoodle

The Labradoodle needs a rich and varied diet depending on its health, age and lifestyle. If he is very active, his rations must cover his energy costs.
