The price of the gray card increases again in 2021

The price of the vehicle registration document increased once again on January 1, 2021. Management fees, ecological penalty and regional taxes, how much does the registration document cost in your region.

The costs of managing the gray card are on the rise

The price of the gray card has once again increased at the start of 2021. If the ecological penalty has raised the note, the costs of file management have seen the largest increase. In 2021, management fees almost tripled. When they were introduced in 2009, they were 4 euros, compared to 11 euros since January 1, 2021. The cost of sending the vehicle registration document to your home remains unchanged. To receive your registration card at home, you have to pay 2.76 euros.

Regional taxes fluctuate greatly from one region to another. Contrary to what one might imagine, it is not in Ile-de-France that the cost of the gray card is the highest, although the price of the tax horse remains above the national average (excluding overseas departments). -TOM) which is 43.24 euros in 2021. A slight decrease in the latter is recorded, in 2020, it was 43.92 euros.

Brittany, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Réunion have the highest tax horse, i.e. 51 euros, while Corsica, Mayotte and Martinique occupy the podium of the least expensive regions with respectively a regional tax of 27 euros and 30 euros. Over the year as a whole, no increase in this regional tax is recorded except in New Aquitaine where the latter goes from 40 to 41 euros.

A disparity in the exemption for clean cars

The choice of an ecologically clean vehicle can have a strong impact on the price of the vehicle registration document. Here again, the exemption is specific to each region. However, with the exception of Brittany and Center-Val de Loire, which exempt up to 50%, the other metropolitan regions exempt 100%. In the French overseas departments and territories, no regional tax exemption is provided for applicants for a vehicle registration document who have chosen an own vehicle. For 100% electric or fuel cell vehicles, the regional tax exemption is total and extended to the entire territory.

As for the ecological penalty, it will no longer affect used cars, but for new vehicles, the starting penalty gauge has been lowered. As of January 1, 2021, the penalty will affect vehicles from 133 g / km of CO2 released compared to 138 g / km in 2020.
